The search for a missing Sydney man involved in the Canadian whale-watching boat tragedy is continuing but as each day passes his grief-stricken family fear he will not be found.

Raveshan Pillay was holidaying with his girlfriend Danielle Hooker and her family when the MV Leviathian II was struck by a rogue wave and capsized near Vancouver Island in Canada last weekend.

Five Britons, including Danielle's father, Nigel, were killed while 21 others were rescued in the accident.

Canadian authorities, who have been hampered by choppy seas, will resume their intensive search on Saturday (AEDT) but the family is fearing the worst.

"The situation is getting worse each day but the authorities are not giving up the search," Raveshan's father Mike told AAP from Canada.

"All we want to do is find Raveshan and take him home."

Earlier this year Raveshan and Danielle travelled to South Africa, the country of his birth, where they enjoyed holidaying with his family and friends.

Social media has been flooded with well-wishes and prayers for the popular 27-year-old electrician, who is one of four children.

"Raveshan was a loving and caring son who was loved by all. We are struggling to come to grips with this tragedy," Mr Pillay said.

"The town has been affected by this accident and the locals have been most helpful. Our thoughts are also with Danielle and her family."

Relatives describe Raveshan as a remarkable young man who is popular and well respected.

"He was focused and working towards building a life with Danielle. He had a heart of gold and they made a great couple," Mr Pillay added.

A land, water and aerial search is ongoing and investigations into the accident continue.
