A Sydney version of famed US technology university the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is bound for the multi-billion dollar city being built alongside the new Western Sydney Airport.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Thursday announced the new institution saying it would have a clear focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics and would prepare students for the jobs of the future.
Bound for Sydney's 'Aerotropolis' precinct - which is what the government calls the mini-city being built alongside Sydney's second international airport - stakeholders believe the campus will provide one of the missing pieces of the puzzle to the area's success.
"International experience shows that these type of universities such as MIT in the United States have a bigger impact on job creation," Western Sydney Business Chamber director David Borger said in a statement.
"Universities have the power to revolutionise entire regions by significantly shifting the needle on jobs and will give students access to the best education for industry research and development."

The University of Newcastle, University of NSW, University of Wollongong and Western Sydney University will work together to create the one focused campus.
The first stage of the new institution is scheduled to open in 2026 - the same year the $5.3 billion and 24-hour Western Sydney Airport is expected to be operational.
