Cricket Australia has moved to end rumours Mitchell Johnson is poised to join Australia's already-bulging fast-bowling injury ward.

Johnson, who is in line to be picked in the opening Ashes Test at the Gabba next month, is currently starring with the ball on the one-day tour of India.

It was announced during commentary of the domestic one-day final between NSW and Queensland on Sunday that the former Bulls paceman had picked up a side strain which would put him in doubt for the Ashes.

The left-arm quick was in line to be rested during the seven-match tour, possibly in one of the final two games to come, but benefitted from the game four and five washouts in Ranchi and Cuttack.

The 31-year-old has not missed an ODI on the current tour and is available for selection in game six in Nagpur on Wednesday, a Cricket Australia spokesperson confirmed.

Johnson is Australia's leading wicket-taker in the India series with five and has looked menacing, regularly clocking over 150km/h while intimidating the Indian middle-order with accurate short balls.

Australia will already be without injured foursome James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Jackson Bird and Pat Cummins for the start of the Ashes.

All have back injuries, with Pattinson and Bird expected to be fit for the later Tests.
