Mitchell Marsh poised to lead comeback

Allrounder Mitchell Marsh, who underwent ankle surgery in April, is eyeing a return to bowling while leading Australia A against India A in Bangalore.

Mitchell Marsh is nearing a return to full allrounder status with the Australia A captain forecasting a bowling comeback in the second and final four-day tour match in India.

Marsh will concentrate on batting and leadership when Australia A play their Indian counterparts for the first time in Bangalore from Sunday, and hoped he would be able to bowl in the tour finale next weekend.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined with an ankle injury which forced him to miss Australia's limited overs tour of England in June and the English county season with Surrey.

"I'm back pretty much blowing full tilt now," said Marsh, who is targeting October's two-Test series with Pakistan in the UAE.

"Hopefully I'll bowl a few overs in the second game. It's all progressed really well. I've had no setbacks throughout the whole injury process so I'm really rapt."

While Marsh will play Pakistan, fitness permitting, the four-day games are the final chance for several players to stake their claim for the tour party.

The Test squad is named soon after the A tour but Marsh said the priority should be winning on the subcontinent.

"Being an Australia A series, a lot of the time you can solely focus on yourself and wanting to score runs, but ultimately we want to come here and play to win," he said.

The team will be finalised before the toss though Marsh confirmed Test opener Matt Renshaw would be unavailable to play at M Chinnaswamy Stadium due to a hamstring injury.

Australia A squad: Mitchell Marsh (capt), Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Brendan Doggett, Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Joel Paris, Kurtis Patterson, Matt Renshaw, Mitch Swepson, Chris Tremain.
