Mitchell still impressing after NSW debut

Sydney Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell has continued to shine following his NSW State of Origin debut last week.

It's scary to imagine just how good Latrell Mitchell can be.

So when he predicts his first taste of State of Origin is going to help take his game to another level, it's worth sitting up and taking notice.

After a dream representative debut in the Blues' Origin I win, Mitchell emphasised his class with another stellar showing, backing up for the Sydney Roosters' in Saturday's 18-16 triumph over Newcastle.

He broke the game open in just the fourth-minute with a blockbusting run which set up Luke Keary to score.

He crossed in the second-half but had it taken off him by the video referees after it was ruled Keary got a hand to the ball contesting a bomb moments earlier.

Mitchell has admitted to at times questioning himself over his career, however his performance against the Knights oozed confidence.

When Mitchell is asked whether the faith shown in him by NSW coach Brad Fittler has helped him grow and taken his career up a notch, he said: "I felt like confidence-wise, yes. Maturity-wise, yes."

And at 20-years-old, there's a feeling we've only just begun to scratch the surface of Mitchell's talent.

"I didn't set it as a goal," Mitchell said of Origin.

"It was obviously long-term (goal).

"But I really wanted to play some consistent footy for the team at club level. And to get that rep jersey, I took it with both hands."

Mitchell admitted that backing up less than 72 hours after his Origin debut had left him aching but felt a duty to give back to his club.

"It took a toll on my body," Mitchell said.

"It was a great game Wednesday, there was plenty of emotion running around but I had another job to do this weekend.

"I was just trying to talk to myself, talk to Keary, talk to the boys around me to get myself in the game and mentally prepare myself.

"My legs were gone, mentally I was trying to stay calm."
