The Colorado company, Rocky Flats Gear, has promoted the undergarments as an "attractive" and "affordable" way of shielding the public from dangerous rays.
"Our emphasis is on protecting the traveling public, airline, medical, and security professionals from radiation generated by security and medical imaging equipment," the company's website says.

"We are bathed in radiation from a variety of sources both natural and man-made, we are trying to do our small part to improve general health and enhance dignity," the site says.
The company's best-sellers include a pair of men's briefs with a fig-leaf covering the crotch, and radiation-blocking bra inserts.
Full-body scanners were introduced in the US earlier this year, after security officials boosted airport security in the wake of a failed 2009 Christmas day bomb attack.
The scans produce a near-naked image of users. Travellers who refuse to be scanned are subjected to a thorough pat-down, which many critics have dubbed "invasive".
