Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has shared his concerns about the death of a Brisbane bus driver during a call with Malcolm Turnbull.

India's prime minister has told Malcolm Turnbull of his concern about the murder of an Indian bus driver in Brisbane.

Narendra Modi "conveyed a sense of concern being felt in India" about the brutal killing of Manmeet Alisher, the ministry of external affairs said in a statement.

Mr Turnbull had "expressed shock" at the killing, it said of the pair's phone call on Sunday night.
