Reg Mombassa has unveiled a 60-metre long artwork at the Sydney Opera House forecourt to cover up construction work.
The work of the Dog Trumpet guitarist can be viewed from the steps of the Sydney Opera House.
For the past 22 years Mombassa, aka Chris O'Doherty, has been performing as Dog Trumpet with his brother Peter. The brothers were both founding members of Mental As Anthing.
Dog Trumpet recently released their sixth studio album Medicated Spirits. The 2CD set marks more than three decades of performing and recording for the O'Dohertys. Mental As Anything had their first hit with The Nips Are Getting Bigger in 1979.
Mombassa's paintings have been bought by Elton John, Ewan McGregor and Patrick White.
Mombassa's first exhibition was as part of a group exhibition in 1975 in Sydney and his first solo show was in 1986. That same year he was commissioned by Mambo to create the artwork for the brand.
In 2007, one of Mombassa's works was shortlisted for the Archibald Prize.
