Monaghan named Wakefield assistant coach

Wakefield Trinity have appointed former NRL and Warrington player Michael Monaghan as their new assistant head coach.

Wakefield have appointed former Raiders and Sea Eagles playmaker Michael Monaghan as their new assistant head coach.

The Australian spent last season in the same role at Super League rivals Catalans Dragons after spending six seasons as a player at Warrington.

Monaghan stepped up as joint-interim head coach alongside former France international Jerome Guisset when Laurent Frayssinous left the club in May, before reverting back to an assistant following the appointment of former England boss Steve McNamara in June.

"When the opportunity arose to come to Wakefield, I was certainly keen to make the move," Monaghan told the club's website.

"Wakefield is a club with a long history. I was really impressed with what the club seemed to offer after seeing how they played last year and the attitude they go around their footy with."
