Money pledged for kids at Vic Nats meeting

Victorian Nationals MPs have met in the state's north as the coalition prepares to come up against Labor in the November election.

The Victorian Nationals leader has pledged $80 million for regional and rural kids while attending the state party's conference.

Peter Walsh announced plans for a 'Brighter Futures Fund' while in the state's north for the meeting on Saturday.

He says the coalition, if elected, would establish integrated hubs, encompassing health and education services under one roof.

Easy access to these services would make it more attractive for families to move to rural areas, Mr Walsh said.

Communities with the lowest educational outcomes would be a priority, the state Nationals leader said.

"It takes a village to raise a child and what we want to do is work with communities to create that village," he told reporters.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack was also expected to attend the weekend conference at Kialla, near Shepparton.

It comes as Victoria's Liberal-National coalition gears up for a November state election fight against Daniel Andrews' Labor government.

Some of the motions up for discussion at the conference included the development of a dedicated Gippsland rail line into Melbourne's CBD, and calls for the state government for invest proceeds from the Snowy Hydro sale into rural and regional infrastructure projects.
