Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis shot at police at close range as they stormed the Lindt Cafe, but missed and instead hit a wall above their heads, an inquest has heard.
The inquest into the Sydney siege has been shown a detailed 3D reconstruction of the deadly conclusion to the stand-off, including the moment Monis fired two shots at police from his pump-action shotgun as they entered the cafe.
The siege came to an end after Monis executed cafe manager Tori Johnson at about 2.13am on December 16, 2014, prompting police to enact the so-called Emergency Action plan.
Using state-of-the-art laser scanners, NSW Police crime scene officer Dominic Raneri was able to accurately recreate the scene inside and outside the cafe to within a millimetre.
The technology also enables avatars to be placed in the video, to represent the six officers who stormed the building.
It shows the first breaching shot fired by police so they can enter the building, and another officer hitting a glass panel at a counter on the inside of the cafe.
A part of the fly-through titled "Monis fires at police" shows that the gunman was just 10 metres from officers as they entered.
Using audio analysis, investigators were also able to confirm Monis fired shots at police first.
Monis was killed when police stormed the Martin Place building, as was hostage Katrina Dawson who died when struck by fragments from police rounds.
The inquest continues.
