Mooney on fire in Heat's big WBBL win

Brisbane Heat recorded an overdue WBBL victory as opener Beth Mooney almost single-handedly accounted for the Adelaide Strikers with a rapid-fire 86.

A stunning innings from Beth Mooney has helped Brisbane Heat ease past the Adelaide Strikers for a much-needed return to the WBBL winner's circle.

Mooney crashed the bowling to all parts of Adelaide Oval for an unbeaten 86 as the Heat won by nine wickets with four overs to spare.

The Strikers posted a relatively modest 6-113 from their 20 overs, with the Heat reaching 1-114 to cruise to victory.

With just one win from four outings going into the match, the Heat were in danger of losing touch with the leading pack against a Strikers side looking to jump to the top of the standings.

But Australian representative Mooney batted the home side out of the contest, striking 10 fours and a six to almost overhaul the victory target single-handedly.

The Strikers' in-form top-order failed to fire with openers Suzie Bates (1) and Tammy Beaumont (5) dismissed early on, before the home side slipped to 5-49 at the midway point.

It needed late cameos from Bridget Patterson (32 from 30 balls) and Tabatha Saville (31 not out from 34) to give the home side's bowlers something to defend.

The two teams will match up again at Adelaide Oval on New Year's Eve.
