Bruce and Denise Morcombe have referred to the day they were told their son's remains had been found in a video clip to encourage pledges for their biopic feature film Where Is Daniel?
The movie is based on their book about their fight for justice for their murdered boy Daniel.
The producers were hoping to raise $300,000, or $10,000 a day, over 30 days but it's looking like pledges will fall well short.
With six days remaining, only $101,700 has been promised.
In the video clip, both Bruce and Denise talk about which parts of their fight for justice are either in the script or will be in the movie.
"I remember the day Daniel went missing," Denise says before Bruce returns with, "it's in the script".
Denise then says, "I remember the day (Brett) Cowan was arrested," Bruce adds, pointing his finger, "that's in the movie."
Denise blankly says, "I remember the day Daniel was found". Bruce, pushing the script towards the camera and says, "script again."
Bruce also mentions safety measures for children are "guaranteed" to be in the movie.
Besides the Morcombes, former prime minister Tony Abbott and surfing great Layne Beachley have leant their profiles to try and drum up pledges.
Mr Abbott has been snapped holding a sign "I 'heart' Where Is Daniel? movie".
Executive producer Rod Hopping says none of the money will be accepted if the target is not reached.
