More asylum seekers sent to Papua New Guinea

Another 39 asylum seekers have been sent to Papua New Guinea's Manus Island under federal Labor's new hardline resettlement plan.

PNG warns Rudd, Abbott over asylum issue

70 men were flown out of the Manus Island detention facility amid allegations of rape and torture.

The single adult men, who are from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, arrived on Manus on Tuesday morning on a chartered flight from Christmas Island.

The government says they stand no chance of being resettled in Australia and could instead be settled in PNG under the arrangement announced on July 19.

"If people are paying thousands and thousands of dollars to a people smuggler, they are buying a ticket to a country other than Australia," an immigration department spokesman said in a statement.

Since the new policy was announced, 23 boats have arrived with almost 1700 people on board.

Of those new arrivals, 118 asylum seekers have been transferred to Manus Island.
