Residents in flood-battered regional NSW are warned more rain is on the way, with a possible thunderstorm predicted.
Lachlan River flood levels at Forbes and Condobolin will likely remain high until at least Wednesday, with 10-15mm rain predicted to hit the area on Tuesday.
The Bureau of Meterology says while Forbes will only receive 2-3mm rain on Tuesday, Lachlan River tributaries in Orange and elsewhere will receive up to 15mm, with the inflow to swell the river in the heavily-flooded area.
"There will likely be a couple of thunderstorms south of Forbes, but we could see a thunderstorm in that area," BoM spokeswoman Sarah Chadwick told AAP on Monday.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects the Lachlan River at Condobolin to peak at 7.2 metres on Wednesday, the highest level since 1990.
The river peaked close to 10m at Nanami, southeast of Forbes, while major flooding continues at Jemalong, where the river reached 7.96m on Monday.
Flood evacuations have been recommended by the SES for low-lying areas of the rural town 100km west of Forbes.
Some properties in Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region are also on evacuation alert, with the Murrumbidgee River peaking at 8.9m on Monday night.
More than 1000 people have been evacuated from around Forbes and Condobolin, and many may not be able to return home for a week or more.
Meanwhile, strong winds, showers and dropping temperatures are predicted to hit either side of the Great Dividing Range on Monday and Tuesday, including parts of the northern, southern and central tablelands, the Snowy Mountains, Hunter and Illawarra regions and the mid north coast.
