More than 80 WA towns to get flood help

Disaster assistance is offered to 88 local government areas in WA where deadly floods have wreaked havoc, washing away roads and crops.

More than 80 local government areas in Western Australia are set to receive disaster assistance after floods wreaked havoc throughout the state.

The flooding, which began in January and continued this month, cut off roads, swamped bridges and devastated crops.

Two men died driving in the hazardous conditions in the Goldfields-Esperance region on the weekend, 74-year-old Anthony 'Tony' Reid and 68-year-old Charles Boyes.

On Wednesday, 88 local government areas were listed for assistance including the major regional centres of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland and Albany.

The assistance includes emergency needs such as food, clothing and accommodation, personal and financial counselling, and interest rate and freight subsidies for primary producers.
