A Moroccan woman in the United Arab Emirates has been accused of killing her lover, cooking his remains, and serving them in a traditional rice dish.

The man was killed three months ago, but the crime was only recently uncovered when his brother went looking for him at their home in the city of Al Ain.
State-owned UAE newspaper The National reports it was there that the brother found a human tooth inside a blender.

He reported his brother missing to police, who carried out a DNA test on the tooth which confirmed it was the man.

The woman, who is in her 30s, had been in a relationship with the man for seven years.

She initially denied the crime before confessing, saying it was a moment of insanity, The National reported.

Police say the woman said she wanted revenge after she had been financially supporting the man for several years.

Police have not revealed the man's exact cause of death, but said his girlfriend served his remains in the traditional Emirati dish machboos to Pakistani workers.

The accused is reportedly undergoing a mental health check.
