Morris won't be Fergo clone at Roosters

Brett Morris says he won't try and replicate Blake Ferguson's power in NRL running metres on replacing him at the Sydney Roosters.

He has the second-most tries of any active player in the NRL but Brett Morris has warned Sydney Roosters fans he can't be a like-for-like replacement for Blake Ferguson.

Lured to the Tri-colours from Canterbury by the pull of two-time premiership-winning coach Trent Robinson, Morris has 146 tries to his name - a tally only bettered by Greg Inglis (149) in terms of current players.

Morris scored a hat-trick in his first outing for the club in place of Latrell Mitchell, who missed the World Club Challenge win over Wigan to play Indigenous All-Stars.

Once-renowned as the best left winger in the world, Morris could play on either side this year given Daniel Tupou has long played on the left for Robinson.

The Roosters' back three were crucial in the club's premiership assault last season with their ability to kick-start sets, with Ferguson, Tupou and James Tedesco each averaging more than150 metres per game.

Parramatta recruit Ferguson was the most damaging of the trio, with the most metres in the NRL last year on the right wing.

But Morris warned that, wherever he played, he wouldn't be able to repeat his former NSW State of Origin teammate's style.

"Fergo was massive last year for the club, the most metres in the comp, scored a hell of a lot of tries and the stuff he did out the back of the field was insane," Morris said.

"I'm not going to be Fergo, I'm not the same size as him.

"Let's be honest, I'm a little bit of a different player.

"But I can try and fit into this side the best I can do what I know I can do well and help out where I can."

Wherever Morris plays though, he can't lose.

On the left he'll have Mitchell at centre with Luke Keary feeding him the ball, while on the right it's Kiwi centre Joseph Manu with Cooper Cronk also figuring.

"Either one of our centres are absolute superstars of our game," Morris said.

"If you watched them play in that (Trans-Tasman) Test against each other it was very exciting to watch.

"Them both being Roosters boys and both with big futures ahead of them, so if you're outside either of them you're happy."
