Federal Labor has labelled Treasurer Scott Morrison "hypocrite in chief" amid reports the government is looking at higher taxes on retirement savings, despite promises not to touch superannuation.

The super changes would hit every worker earning more than about $18,000 a year, The Australia reported on Thursday.

"Scott Morrison's thought bubble attacks people on middle incomes," Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen told reporters in Canberra.
