Scott Morrison is adamant the government will decide who gets to invest in Australia and says investors like China understand that position, echoing the advice the prime minister gave Beijing in bilateral talks at the weekend.

The treasurer in August blocked the sale of NSW electricity distributor Ausgrid to Chinese interests deeming it was not in Australia's national interest.

"If you wanted to do the same thing in China you wouldn't be allowed to do it," Mr Morrison told Sydney's 2GB radio on Monday.
