Morrison checking Dutton's childcare talks

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will check whether Home Affairs Minister Peter Duton recused himself from cabinet when childcare funding changes were addressed.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is checking whether Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton stepped out of cabinet when childcare funding changes were discussed.

Mr Dutton has a family financial interest in two Brisbane childcare centres, and has previously left cabinet when childcare funding was being discussed.

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull told parliament he would check whether Mr Dutton was in cabinet for the most recent childcare funding discussions, and Mr Morrison told parliament on Wednesday he would seek an update on the inquiry.

Mr Dutton earlier told parliament he had "always complied" with cabinet rules about conflicts of interest.

"I've declared any interests I've had in any discussion, I've been very clear about that," Mr Dutton said.

"I've recused myself from discussions where that's been deemed appropriate, and I've seen some erroneous media reports, but I can't add anything further than that."
