Morrison denies cancelled bank meetings

Treasurer Scott Morrison denies he cancelled a series of meetings with the big four bank chiefs after their lobby group appointed a former Labor premier as its new chief executive.

"That's not true," Mr Morrison told Ray Hadley on Sydney's 2GB radio in response to an Australian Financial Review report saying the treasurer had abruptly cancelled meetings with bank chief executives on Friday.

"I had no scheduled meetings with the banks."

Mr Morrison said he had only just finished an extensive round of discussions with bank bosses.

However, the treasurer was hardly glowing in his response to former Labor premier Anna Bligh being appointed to the top role at the Australian Bankers' Association.

"Only they can explain that. I will continue to deal with the ABA professionally as I always have, regardless who's in that job," he said.
