Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged his cabinet to focus on the "aspirations of all Australians" as they met for the first time since the election.

Mr Morrison and his ministers were sworn in at Government House in Canberra on Wednesday, having secured a parliamentary majority at the May 18 election.

"We're all privileged to serve the Australian people - they will be the centre of our gaze every single day," Mr Morrison said.

"We look forward to bringing the parliament back in July and pushing ahead with this agenda and it's the agenda for the aspirations of all Australians."

He particularly welcomed Ken Wyatt as the first indigenous person to be a member of cabinet and hold the position of Minister for Indigenous Australians.

"We have to ensure that all Australians - and in particular indigenous Australians - have the same opportunities as every other Australian in this country," Mr Morrison said.

He reiterated the government's key election promises to deliver 1.25 million new jobs over five years, bring the budget back to surplus, eliminate debt over the decade and fund essential services such as health, education, roads and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The government would also "break the curse" of youth suicide, he said.

"We are going to be curse-breakers around this table when it comes to attacking that issue."
