Morrison sets new ministerial standards

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called on his ministers to detail their private interests in a bid to ensure integrity.

Scott Morrison has laid down the law to his ministers, asking that they provide him with extra details about their private interests to avoid conflicts.

The updated statement of ministerial standards, issued by Mr Morrison after taking over as prime minister last Friday, has been posted to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet website.

In the foreword to the 11-page document, Mr Morrison writes the Australian people deserve a government that will act with integrity.

"All ministers and assistant ministers are expected to conduct themselves in line with standards established in this statement in order to maintain the trust of the Australian people," he wrote.

"All parliamentarians are required to disclose private interests to the parliament. Given the additional powers of ministers and assistant ministers, I expect them to provide me with additional information about their private interests to ensure there are no conflicts with their roles as ministers."
