Morrison touches base with NZ's Ardern

Scott Morrison has already spoken with NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as he takes over the Australian reins from Malcolm Turnbull.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has phoned her new Australian counterpart Scott Morrison after his Liberal leadership win.

Mr Morrison is a former director of the NZ Office of Tourism and Sport and was involved in the creation of the "100 per cent pure" New Zealand campaign.

"I look forward to building a really strong relationship with him," Ms Ardern told reporters in Auckland.
