Morrison: WA Nats' Muir not tied to Libs

Federal treasurer Scott Morrison says the senate candidacy of ex-Green Kado Muir for the WA Nationals is not related to the coalition.

An ex-Greens candidate who won the top Senate spot for the Nationals in Western Australia is not tied to the coalition, Treasurer Scott Morrison insists.

Mr Morrison, in launching the coalition's "Greening of Labor" attack ad this week, accused the ALP of being overrun by former Greens candidates.

However the candidacy of Kado Muir, who once stood for the Greens, forced Mr Morrison to face accusations his own party accommodated ex-Greens.

The treasurer said the WA Nationals were not part of the federal coalition, and competed against the Liberals in the state.

Nor did Mr Muir, an anti-nuclear activist, have any connection to the Liberals.

"As you know, when there was a WA Nationals candidate actually in the federal parliament, they didn't actually form part of the coalition," Mr Morrison told reporters in Sydney on Friday.

It was "self-apparent" Labor could only form government with assistance from the Greens.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale had made it crystal clear, he would never ever do a deal to support the coalition."

The Liberals in WA have instructed voters to give their first preference to the Nationals.
