Gold Coast's capture of Sydney Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan has been more than welcomed by Dan Mortimer.
Canavan will join the Titans as the NRL club's chief operating officer in a move Mortimer has hailed as a "huge signing".
Mortimer worked under Canavan for two and a half seasons at the Roosters before moving to the Titans in the middle of the 2014 season.
The 26-year-old says after another troubled off-season, the importance of Canavan's recruitment cannot be understated.
"He's one of those guys whose been right from the bottom to the very top. Those people that come from the bottom to the top are genuinely very good at what they do," Mortimer said.
"I think he's a great coup for the Gold Coast Titans.
"We've had our ups and downs through the pre-season and he's a huge signing.
"The way he ran the Roosters when I was there, he's just an absolute professional and he'll obviously bring a lot to this club."
On the field, Mortimer isn't viewing a season-ending knee injury to halfback Kane Elgey as an opportunity to cement himself a permanent halves role with the team.
Mortimer has bounced between the halves and hooker throughout his entire career at the Titans, Roosters and Parramatta.
But he seems comfortable to be tagged as a utility and take on whatever position coach Neil Henry throws at him.
"I haven't really found a home as a position but at the same time I'm enjoying being able to fill those positions when the team needs," Mortimer said.
"I've been bouncing between hooker and halves probably like I have the last year so I think that utility role is going to be more prominent for me.
"Keeping my skills brushed up on both positions. That'll probably help my chances of playing this year."
