The suicide bomber who killed 36 and wounded more than 150 at Russia's busiest airport was heavily drugged, the head of the country's FSB federal security service security service said on Thursday.
Reporting to President Dmitry Medvedev the preliminary investigation results on last month's attack on Moscow Domodedovo airport, FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov said:
"I would like to stress that one of the tests -- a biological test -- showed that the suicide bomber's fragments contained a huge amount of highly powerful drugs and psychotropic substances."
"This demonstrates once again how bandits prepare this category (of people) for the execution of such grave crimes."
Security officials have earlier said that the bombing attack had been carried out by a 20-year-old native from one of the North Caucasus republics. Bortnikov told Medvedev in televised remarks that the bomber had joined one of the militants' gangs last August, adding that officials had detained several people with the knowledge of the information on the attack and were now looking for the bomber's accomplices.
"We believe we know who the organiser was," Bortnikov added.
Medvedev said the case had not yet been solved, adding that no official had a right to announce the results prematurely.
"This crime has not been solved so far, yet there is movement forward," Medvedev said.
Curiously, his mentor, current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said the bombing attack had been almost solved.
"You can say that the case has on the whole been solved," he told television executives late Wednesday in comments released by his government.
