Most NSW voters want second airport

Almost three quarters of NSW voters want a commitment on a second airport from Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott, 30 years after the idea was buried.

Most NSW voters want second airport

An overwhelming majority of NSW voters want a second airport built in Sydney's west, a poll shows.

An overwhelming majority of NSW voters are fed up with the political impasse and want a second airport built at Badgerys Creek, in Sydney's west.

A Galaxy poll shows 72 per cent of the state's voters want a second airport for Sydney, 49 per cent of them in favour of Badgerys Creek, with 51 per cent of Labor voters in favour of the site as the best option.

The finding was almost identical among coalition voters, the poll found.

However, the Rudd government has refused to commit to the project, due to the ALP's uncertain standing in western Sydney and pressure from marginal Labor MPs ahead of the September election.

The Daily Telegraph reports Galaxy research CEO David Briggs saying the overwhelming majority of voters in NSW are in favour of a new airport in Sydney.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd last week refused to commit to a second airport, while Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has said he will make a decision, if elected in September, in his first term.
