A teenage mother who allegedly murdered her baby by stabbing him six times with a pair of manicuring scissors has faced court in the NSW central west.

The 19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave birth to the baby boy at her home in Canowindra on Wednesday morning.

She was found by family members shortly after the birth, and taken to Canowindra Hospital suffering blood loss.

She was later taken to Orange Base Hospital.

Family members went to Canowindra hospital with the body of the full-term baby.

Police allege a post mortem on Friday revealed the baby died as a result of numerous puncture wounds to the chest.

The woman was arrested and charged on Friday and appeared in Orange Local Court today.

She was refused bail and will reappear in the same court on Monday.
