A motorcycle rider has been killed after losing control of his bike in a Canberra suburb.
ACT police said the single vehicle collision occurred at the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Mouat Street, Lyneham, about 11pm (AEDT) Wednesday.
The rider, a 22-year-old man, lost control of his bike and smashed into a traffic island, police said.
He was taken to Canberra Hospital where he died.
The death takes the ACT Christmas holiday road toll to one and the national toll to seven.
The national road toll period runs from midnight December 23, 2013 until midnight January 3, 2014, local times, in line with the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Board.
