MP persists with push to end live exports

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie has presented to parliament his fourth bill to ban live animal exports from Australia.

An independent MP is making a fourth attempt to completely shut down Australia's live export trade.

Andrew Wilkie on Monday introduced a private bill to permanently ban animals from being sent abroad for slaughter from 2020 and, in the meantime, ensure live animals are treated humanely after they exported.

"How on earth can any civilised decent country allow this barbaric behaviour to continue?" he told MPs.
