Prime Minister Tony Abbott is expected to be among the guests at the funeral of Liberal MP Don Randall in Perth.

Mr Randall, 62, died suddenly from a suspected heart attack in Boddington last week and will be farewelled at the Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Padbury on Friday.

The federal member for Canning, for five consecutive terms, was found unresponsive in his car after spending the day meeting voters in his electorate.

Mr Randall is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julie, and two children, Tess and Elliott.

His staff last week issued a tribute to the parliamentary veteran of 17 years, saying Mr Randall was a fair dinkum MP who put his electorate first - even if it meant ruffling a few feathers.

The Randall family described him as a "true blue maverick" who never stopped fighting for what he believed in.

"What you saw was what you got and we loved that about him," they said in a statement.

Senator David Johnston held back tears as he said Mr Randall was a good friend and hard-working member of parliament.

Labor's Alannah MacTiernan, who unsuccessfully competed against Mr Randall at the 2010 federal election, said despite some "biffo" between them over the decades, they built up a "camaraderie that certainly can transcend party lines" while fighting for WA at a federal level.

In lieu of flowers, Mr Randall's family have asked that people make a donation to the Autism Association of WA or Wanslea Grandcarers.

The former horse trainer will also be honoured with Saturday races at Belmont Park and Pinjarra Park.
