MP warns of same-sex marriage seat loss

Senior Liberal Concetta Fierravanti-Wells believes her party could be at risk of losing seats if it was to support same-sex marriage.

A Turnbull government minister has warned marginal Liberal seats are at risk from faith groups if the party changes its policy on same-sex marriage.

Assistant Multicultural Minister Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, a vocal opponent of gay marriage, said traditional marriage, family values and hard work resonate the strongest within Australia's culturally-diverse communities.

"A coalition policy that directly supports same-sex marriage could place under threat some of our most marginal seats which have disproportionately high religious and migrant communities," she told the National Press Club in Canberra on Wednesday.
