MPs move to condemn North Korea

A Liberal MP has moved a motion in parliament to condemn North Korea and call on China to pressure Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear and missile program.

A group of MPs from across the political divide has used parliament to condemn North Korea over its repeated testing of illegal nuclear and ballistic weapons and significant ongoing human rights abuses.

Government backbencher Julian Leeser on Monday moved a motion in the lower house calling on Pyongyang to abandon its missile and nuclear program and abide by multiple United Nations resolutions.

It also encouraged China to pressure North Korea to adhere to international agreements and begin constructive talks to permanently dismantle its nuclear capabilities.
