MPs won't breastfeed just for show: MP

Liberal MP Brett Whiteley is confident women MPs would only breastfeed in parliament as a matter of mother nature and "not for show".

A federal MP is confident his female colleagues won't abuse their new right to breastfeed in parliament's lower house chamber.

New rules no longer prohibit MPs from bringing infants onto the floor of the House of Representatives.

"I don't think I know of any women on either side of parliament, if there is such a way of abusing that privilege, would do it just for show. They would do it as a matter of mother nature," Liberal Brett Whiteley told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
