A 20-year-old Malaysian student, captured on video being attacked and mugged during the London riots, is recovering in hospital.

The attack on Ashraf Haziq went viral after being posted on YouTube.

In the video, Ashraf is seen on the ground surrounded by young men who appeared to be going to his aid, when some of the men stood behind him and took things from his backpack.

The Guardian newspaper's website reports that Ashraf was recovering in the Royal London Hospital. A friend recorded a chat with him in hospital and posted it on YouTube.

Britain's Channel 4 News reports that an online campaign sprung up to help Ashraf Haziq, aiming to raise money to help him.
