Mum thanks staff after bub born at station

A Sydney train station duty manager said he's used to helping passengers but delivering a baby after a woman went into labour at the station was a shock.

A mother who gave birth at a Sydney train station has been reunited with the man who helped to safely deliver her baby girl.

Three weeks ago, Cecilia went into labour after getting off a train at Auburn station.

On Thursday she returned to the platform where the ordeal began to praise duty manager Matt Ward for his quick thinking.

Mr Ward said it was a "scary few minutes" when he realised Cecilia would have to give birth on the floor on the station office.

NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance said he believed it was the first time a passenger had ever given birth on Sydney Trains property, as he hailed his "tremendous" staff.

Three-week-old baby Alofamoni Lagh slept quietly as her mother thanked Mr Ward for "acting like a doctor".

Mr Ward, who admitted he needed a beer after the delivery, said: "I've had first-aid training but it doesn't really cover being a midwife.

"Thankfully the ambulance guys came in at the pivotal moment.

"We were all just relieved to see they were both OK."

CCTV captured the moment heavily pregnant Cecilia was ushered into the office before emerging just over a quarter of an hour later holding her new baby daughter.

Cecilia, from Guildford, who was due around the time she gave birth on September 29, credited the "love of the people at the train station" for the safe arrival of her daughter.
