Anthony Mundine will undergo hip surgery in England in an effort to save his boxing career.

Mundine still hopes for another rematch with Danny Green upon his return to Australia, after he spends five days in hospital recuperating from the operation.

The 40-year-old says he has been fighting on one leg for more than five years, and has therefore chosen renowned hip surgeon Derek McMinn for the procedure.

It won't come cheap though - the surgery alone is $30,000 while he'll also have to shelve out around $10,000 on airfares and accommodation.

But Mundine believes it will be worthwhile as it will bring him back to somewhere near his best.

"When it's all fixed and I've got full use of my body back, Danny Green will be taking out an AVO on me," he told News Corp Australia.

"He won't know what's hit him."
