Munster in line for Maroons No.6 jersey

His Melbourne Storm connection with Queensland's spine may earn Cameron Munster a State of Origin debut in the Maroons No.6 jersey in the series decider.

Cameron Munster's established combination with Melbourne Storm teammates Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk may convince Maroons coach Kevin Walters to start the Storm playmaker at five-eighth in State of Origin III.

North Queensland's Michael Morgan had been expected to graduate from bench utility and take over from injured pivot Johnathan Thurston (shoulder) in July 12's Origin III in Brisbane.

Walters said he had not decided who would wear the Maroons No.6 jersey after naming his game three team in alphabetical order on Monday.

However, he admitted the thought of debutant Munster forming the Maroons spine with his Storm teammates was tempting.

"That is one of the other reasons for his selection," Walters said of Munster.

"He plays with half the (Queensland) team every week and has so for the past two years.

"I know it is a big occasion but knowing Cameron's mindset, he will be ready to go come Wednesday week."

Walters said he expected a smooth Origin transition for Munster after learning from the star trio at the Storm.

"Fortunately for us he has been in a good system at the Storm under some of the greats of the game," Walters said.

"He has picked up a lot of their knowledge and skill and their habits.

"I guess Queensland is going to bare that fruit on Wednesday week."

Walters said he would decide who would start at five-eighth at their Gold Coast Origin camp.

"We will sort that out in the next couple of days. We have some good options there," he said.

"Either way with Cameron Munster and Michael Morgan, I think they have both displayed that they have the ability to perform on a big occasion and it doesn't get any bigger than a decider at Suncorp.

"Whoever we select there is going to be a big responsibility for them.

"At the moment it's about getting them together and relaxed before what is going to be a pretty big occasion."
