An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of aspiring lawyer Omar Elomar who was gunned down on a western Sydney street two weeks ago.

Mr Elomar, a relative of dead Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar, died at Cabramatta Avenue in Miller on February 15 after being shot in the chest. Police allege the killing followed an altercation the previous day.

The 18-year-old was last week charged with concealing a serious indictable offence allegedly related to Mr Elomar's killing. He was on Tuesday evening also arrested at Surry Hills Police Station and charged with murder.

He's scheduled to appear before Central Local Court on the murder charges on Wednesday. His earlier charges remain before the courts.
