A man allegedly murdered in his Port Adelaide home had facial and head injuries, police say.

The 58-year-old man was found dead in his Leadenhall St home at 4am on Saturday after police were called to the street when a man allegedly broke windows in a neighbouring house.

"The man had some facial injuries and some injuries to his head. The actual cause of death is unknown at this stage," Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Dodd told reporters on Saturday.

The dog squad searched the area and found a 46-year-old Port Adelaide man, who has been charged with murder.

"We're still in the process of searching the house but we haven't found a weapon," Det Insp Dodd said.

"The accused is from the same street, they do know each other."

Det Insp Dodd said police did not yet have a motive for the alleged murder.

Another neighbour called police after the man police have charged allegedly smashed windows in a house.

The 46-year-old Port Adelaide man has been charged with murder, refused bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
