Cameron Murray was just seven when NSW last won a State of Origin decider, but that doesn't mean he only has bad memories of the Blues from his childhood.

Now 21, Murray is the youngest member of the NSW side out to claim the state's first Origin decider since 2005 when they host Queensland on Wednesday.

In the past 14 years the Maroons have won seven successive Origin games when the series goes on the line, however Murray remembers when childhood hero Brad Fittler helped the Blues win it in 2004.

"That's my first Origin memory, when Freddie charged it down," Murray told AAP.

"They were some of my first memories of rugby league in itself. And it's pretty cool that the person that won that game is now my coach.

"That was his last year too. So that puts it into perspective how special it is for me, how much Origin's been a part of my life ever since I was a little kid."

Queensland have won seven straight deciders in total, two of which came at the Blues' home ground, and the scene of Wednesday's clash, at ANZ Stadium.

Murray, who will come off the bench for the third successive game including in his debut in game one, believes the time is nigh to begin a new Origin dynasty.

The Blues have yet to defend the shield since 2004-05.

"It's something that will obviously go down in history books as one of the greatest eras in rugby league history, not just Origin," Murray said of the Maroons' era.

"But there's a desire there to see what they did and, the talent we have coming through NSW now, there's a desire and want to replicate that.

"It's something that's hard to top - there's some future Immortals and great players that came through that Queensland dynasty.

"And it's something very ambitious, but it's good to strive for greatness like that."
