Muslim groups have condemned Islamic State's call for an attack on Australia after the terror group urged followers to conduct lone wolf attacks.
"Any attack on Australia, lone wolf or otherwise, is an attack on Islam and Muslims," said Keysar Trad, president of Muslims Australia, the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) in a statement on Wednesday.
"Islam is freely practised in Australia and mosques exist in every capital city.
"Muslim Australians consider Australia home and we respect Australia and its people who are all our fellow citizens," he said.
Mr Trad said the call for violence by IS "is anathema to Islam and its great teachings."
In florid language, the 38-page IS newsletter titled Rumiyah urges attacks on Australians at locations such as Brunswick, Broadmeadows, Bankstown, and Bondi as well as at the MCG, the SCG, Opera House, and "even in their backyards".
