Muslim community groups across Australia have condemned the Federal Government's proposal to revoke the citizenship of Australians involved in terrorism.

The legislation, if passed, would mean Australians with dual citizenship could also be stripped of their citizenship if they are citizens of their parents' birth country.

Up to half of the one-hundred Australians fighting alongside Islamic State in Iraq and Syria are dual citizens.

The government will legislate the move within weeks as part of a new tranche of anti-terrorism laws.

Islamic Council of Victoria President Ghaith Krayam has told Van Nguyen why he's against the move.
