Muslin appointed Serbia coach

Serbia's Football Association have appointed Former Red Star Belgrade player Slavoljub Muslin national coach.

Former Red Star Belgrade player Slavoljub Muslin has been appointed coach of the Serbia national team.

Muslin, 62, succeeds Radovan Curcic who was dismissed last month after Serbia failed to qualify for the European Championship.

Muslin, who has coached a variety of clubs including Red Star, Bordeaux, Standard Liege, Levski Sofia, Metalurg Donetsk, Lokomotiv Moscow and Dinamo Minsk has been contracted until the end of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Serbia's Football Association said on Thursday.

The deal will be extended if Serbia qualify for the finals in Russia.

Muslin, a defender for Red Star between 1975 and 1981, begins with a friendly against Cyprus later this month.

In the World Cup qualifiers, Serbia are in Europe's Group D with Austria, Ireland, Wales, Moldova and Georgia.
