Queensland prop Nate Myles is under an injury cloud ahead of State of Origin II, due to a knee complaint.

Manly co-captain Myles suffered the injury early on in the Sea Eagles' NRL loss to Penrith on Sunday.

Myles completed the match, but Manly coach Trent Barrett said the injury could spell trouble and the veteran forward has been sent for scans.

"He needs a scan on his knee, I don't know how serious it is," Barrett said.

Myles suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Manly's dramatic 31-24 loss to the Panthers at Brookvale Oval.

He spent much of the first half in the attention of Manly's medical staff, who eventually declared he was fit to play on.

The veteran of 30 Origin matches then spent the first 20 minutes of the second half cycling on Manly's exercise bikes on the sideline, before the 30-year-old was finally thrust into the fray.

He wasn't very effective for Manly as the Panthers secured a sensational comeback win.

Myles has been down on form this NRL season and his spot in the Maroons side has been the subject of much scrutiny, but he is still considered an essential part of Kevin Walters' side, and is a certain selection for Origin II in Brisbane next week.

Walters named his side for game two on Monday.

If Myles is ruled out, North Queensland's Gavin Cooper is one player who could come into the Maroons side.
