Mystery Liberia disease claims 12th victim

A mysterious disease has claimed its 12th victim in Liberia and authorities are searching for people who attended a funeral who might be infected.

Another person has died from a mysterious disease in Liberia, raising the death toll to 12, the health ministry says.

The latest victim was the fiancee of a man who had died after returning to the capital, Monrovia, from Greenville in the southeast, where he had attended a funeral.

The disease first appeared in Greenville last week.

Out of nine other people who were infected, three have been discharged from hospital.

The health ministry says the government is searching for 60 Monrovians who had attended the funeral.

It also called on people to report symptoms including vomiting, stomach ache and diarrhoea.

Initial tests have ruled out the Ebola virus.

Blood samples have been sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
