North Korea has proposed another high-level meeting this week with South Korea to discuss its participation in the Winter Olympics, which start on February 9.

The North Korean delegation has proposed a meeting on Wednesday at the Peace House in Panmunjom village, in the militarised border separating the two countries, South Korea's Unification Ministry told EFE.

The proposal was made at Monday's meeting between the two countries discussing details about Pyongyang's plan to send an art troupe to the Olympics.

It is largely expected that Seoul will accept the offer for talks to continue with the discussions over North Korea.

Last week the two Koreas held their first talks in two years and agreed on the North's participation in the Winter Olympics being held in the South next month.

Although the meeting last week culminated with rapprochement, Pyongyang has not yet confirmed its athletes' participation in the Winter Olympics or responded to Seoul's request that both countries parade under a unified flag as in other editions of the Olympics.

Both issues are expected to be discussed in the meeting proposed for Wednesday.

Meanwhile foreign ministers from around 20 nations will gather in Canada to discuss how to curb North Korea's nuclear ambitions through diplomatic and financial pressure, but China, seen as a key player in any long-term solution, will be absent.

The meeting in Vancouver on Tuesday, co-hosted by Canada and the US, comes amid signs that tensions on the peninsula have eased, at least temporarily.
