Nathan Lyon's big day out in Bangalore

Nathan Lyon broke all manner of records when he claimed astonishing figures of 8-50 in Australia's second Test against India.

NATHAN LYON'S RECORD-BREAKING ROMP IN THE GARDEN CITY

* Lyon's haul was the best by a visiting Test bowler in India. He bettered South African allrounder Lance Klusener's 8-64 in Kolkata in 1996

* It was also the best innings figures of Lyon's career, bettering the 7-94 he claimed in Delhi during the 'homeworkgate' tour of 2013

* Lyon extended his impressive record against Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. The offspinner has dismissed both batsmen five times. No Test bowler has been more successful against the pair

* Lyon has now claimed a record 58 wickets in Border-Gavaskar battles. Brett Lee (53 wickets) was previously Australia's highest wicket-taker against India

* Lyon needs eight more wickets to surpass Richie Benaud's career haul of 248 wickets. That would leave Shane Warne as the only spinner higher on Australia's list of most prolific Test bowlers

HOW LYON GRABBED EIGHT OF THE BEST

* INDIA 2-72: Pujara prodded forward to the final delivery of the morning session, offering bat pad Peter Handscomb a regulation catch

* INDIA 4-118: Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane both fell victim to Lyon in the post-lunch session, the former was trapped lbw when he didn't offer a shot and the latter was stumped by Matthew Wade

* INDIA 189: Lyon claimed all five wickets to fall in a stunning collapse of 5-15 that ended the innings. He will be on a hat-trick when he first bowls in the second innings, having dismissed KL Rahul and Ishant Sharma with consecutive deliveries.
